Goddard Employee Spotlight: Andrew Barron

blog

Goddard Technologies is a product development consultancy, home to a multidisciplinary team of engineers. But Goddard isn’t just engineering. Our project management team leads projects from infancy to completion and beyond and is an integral part of the organization. Today, we’ll meet Andrew Barron, an engineer-turned-project manager at Goddard.

Andrew Barron is a Senior Project Manager at Goddard and has been with the company for three years. He began his career as an electrical engineer and as his experience grew, he knew he needed to make a decision about his future. When he became an engineering manager, he realized that project management was his next step.

In his own words, Andrew explained, “I found that I enjoyed interactions with other engineering disciplines and enjoyed mentoring junior engineers on their path forward. I moved into project management because I could affect the most change and process improvement by organizing and mentoring a multidisciplinary team of engineers and products.” His self-described “type A personality” was well-suited for project management. He elaborated, “I love the ever-changing group dynamics of a team, the efficiencies of tight budgets and well-planned schedules, and the growth impact of technically challenging products.”

Andrew’s time as an electrical engineer serves the projects he manages as well. Prior to becoming a project manager, he worked on developing a transceiver chip through the gate-phase process into the market. At the same time, he needed to manage the new test equipment, new test fixtures and procedures, the new process control indicators, and quality metrics. This project took all his skills as an engineer, as each of these action items required a close relationship with vendors and engineering groups to supply research, then ideas, and culminating in a functioning solution that could be iteratively improved over the development. But he met the challenge head-on. “Each technical hurdle was solved by communication, coordination, and data-driven decision-making.” These skills seamlessly blend into project management.

Why Go Goddard? According to Andrew, “[We approach] the client service model with transparency and good faith. A client not only hires the experience and talent, but also enlists the organizational priorities of quality, integrity, and customer service. This has translated into a partnered approach with our clients. In essence, we do right by our agreements and the customer’s need.”
