Mechanical Design Engineer

Goddard is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with roughly 3-5 years of experience in product development, mechanical design and engineering to join our team in Beverly, MA.

In this role, we will ask you to:

  1. Work with a team to design and test mechanical concepts for a wide range of products, encompassing core functional mechanisms, exterior parts, and packaging – all while balancing function, appearance and budgetary requirements.
  2. Work with clients independently or as a team member on larger projects.
  3. Communicate clearly with team members, senior management and the client throughout the project.
  4. Be a positive and success-oriented individual who is familiar with the latest product development and rapid-prototype methodologies.
  5. Work with team members to estimate resource requirements, monitor progress and balance/reallocate as needed. Strive to balance strategic planning and tactical execution.
  6. Work with team members to resolve conflicts among resources and between clients and engineering teams
  7. Remain apprised of the progress of certain projects, paying particular attention to any developing problems, and participate in major problem resolutions.
  8. Keep all privileged information private and confidential.
  9. Be proficient in the latest version of SolidWorks CAD package.

Principal Electrical Engineer

  1. Possess a broad understanding of the electronic technology landscape.
  2. Define the system and hardware architecture for a given system and participate in the definition of software architecture.
  3. Be the primary lead on multiple projects. You will manage and lead groups of engineers and advise in the design and execution of all projects, ensuring on-time submission of deliverables.
  4. Be the senior-most engineer within your group. You will be expected to lead the process of creating a cohesive group.
  5. Lead teams to create electrical/electromechanical concepts for overall packaging strategies and parts.
  6. Work with clients on individual projects or as a team lead.
  7. Communicate clearly and concisely with your team and the client throughout the project.
  8. Strive to balance strategic planning and tactical execution.
  9. Work with sales to secure potential clients, assessing new projects.
  10. Be a mentor to other engineers in similar fields.
  11. Travel as-needed (valid driver’s license and vehicle required).

You should be familiar with:

  1. Wireless tech: Bluetooth low energy, Wi-Fi, LoRa, cellular tech and 4G tech targeting IoT.
  2. Microcontrollers: INcluding ARM Cortex M series. C-programming expertise desired.
  3. Designing a system to minimize power consumption.
  4. Charging and fuel-gauging of lithium batteries for portable applications.
  5. Connecting devices to the cloud and issues related to security including authentication and encryption.
  6. Various sensor types including MEMS
  7. GPS
  8. Motors: Ability to design circuits to drive motors including brushed, brushless and stepper.
  9. Compliance requirements and agency approvals
